Case Study: Low Profile flyback transformer for Telecoms DC-DC converter
A telecoms equipment supplier was designing a power unit for supplying 48V DC and required a safety isolating flyback transformer capable of handling around 200 watts, fitting within a custom machined aluminium jacket, and mounting on a 1.6mm PCB with clearance above one side of the PCB of around 8mm, and around 3mm the other side.
The design was full custom and employed insulated foil windings and special low-profile hardware, involving a custom integral PCB, and modified bobbin and machined ferrite.
